Depilatory Waxes – themes and innovations.

Developments in depilatory wax formulations usually aim to improve their effectiveness, reduce pain, minimise irritation, and enhance the overall customer experience.
At British Wax, we are continuously working on developing new formulations and innovations for our professional beauty wax range. We focus development work on some essential themes to deliver high-performance wax products.

Natural Ingredients: Until now consumer demand for using natural ingredients in depilatory waxes has tended to focus on therapeutic additives such as plant extracts and essential oils while ignoring the main ingredients such as the waxes, oils and resins. With the EU’s Green Claims Directive (incorporated within the EU Green Deal* legislation) likely to take effect in 2026, the trend towards genuinely natural and/or sustainable depilatory wax formulations has accelerated.
Our depilatory waxes have always been constructed around natural ingredients, with some synthetic ingredients added for performance. However, in recent years we have focused our development work on high performance natural and sustainable formulations using the latest sustainable materials available, so that we have natural strip and natural non-strip waxes.
Many of our premium hot wax formulations contain beeswax as it combines performance and sustainability. A truly super-sustainable material, it contributes to a smoother and more comfortable waxing experience through its flexibility, low melting point and gentle adhesive properties.

Sensitive Skin Formulations: We offer a range of waxes that are specially formulated for sensitive skin. These waxes contain ingredients like chamomile or aloe vera that can help soothe irritation and reduce redness. We also have 100% rosin-free and fragrance-free formulations for those who are allergic to pine resin or have more sensitive skin.

Quick Heating and Application: While most of our waxes are best used with salon wax heaters, some of our waxes have been specifically designed and tested for microwave use, bringing professional wax quality into home waxing kits.

Longer Lasting Results: Our best waxes are always the result of close collaboration with beauty professionals who know exactly what problem they want to solve and what they are looking for in a wax. A key priority is always to effectively remove the shortest and finest hairs, delivering an extremely smooth finish that will meet our customers’ hair-free requirements in a single treatment.
The development and feedback process is important and should continue when the customer has received their first treatment and also when they return for their next waxing. This feedback enables our customers to validate claims such as slower and finer hair growth over time.

Reduced Pain Formulations: We have developed formulae to ensure they work at a temperature range suitable for comfortable skin application, preventing the build-up of heat which may cause skin damage and further irritation.
We also offer wax blends that help minimise pain during hair removal and improve the condition of your skin after waxing. Many of our products include functional additives such as Aloe Vera, Lavender Oil, Chamomile, or Vitamin E, all of which are known for their soothing, calming, or anti-
inflammatory properties that benefit sensitive or irritated skin. They also help alleviate redness, irritation, and discomfort.

Customised Waxing Options: We offer a variety of waxes aimed at different hair types and waxing methods. These enable salons to cater for different hair and skin needs, such as hot waxes for coarse hair application and male grooming, film waxes for intimate waxing and facial waxes for brows, finer hair and short regrowth.

Sustainable Packaging: We are always on the look-out for new sustainable packaging options to enable our customers and the wider beauty industry to continue to move towards increasing sustainability. Feedstock, recycled content and recyclability are always considered whether we are buying bottles, jars, bags, pouches, labels or boxes.
