World Bee Day 2022

Bees play a fundamental role in our ecosystem. Today, every third spoonful of food depends on pollination. Without bees, the world as we know would look very different. Bees may look a little intimidating to some, but never judge a book by it’s cover. They are incredibly vulnerable and valuable pollinators across the world.

Despite their talents, our bees are at risk of becoming extinct. This is sadly a consequence of climate change, pesticides and habitat loss.
Food and Agriculture Organization or FAO for short, is a UN agency focused on defeating world hunger. They celebrate all things bee, as well as diverse and modern beekeeping systems, with a virtual event, named ‘Bee Engaged: Celebrating the diversity of bees and beekeeping systems’.
As beeswax specialists, we recognise and appreciate bees and beeswax for the essential ecological foundation they provide as well as the beautiful natural raw material they generate, which is useful for so many applications. Which is why we factor into our direct EAWC supply chain the importance of training our beekeepers to leave minimum 30% of the beeswax comb in the hives to enable the bee broods to thrive. The bees are also wild and able to move and leave the hive entirely to go to a new habitat at any point, this enables them continue their important pollination work.
